Topic: ICO Satellite Management

Encyclopedia: Iridium (satellite)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
The Iridium satellites were, however, retained in orbit, and their services have been re-established in 2001 by the newly founded Iridium Satellite LLC, owned by a group of private investors.
Iridium and other satellite phones may be identifiable to the listener because of the particular "clipping" effect of the data compression and the latency (experienced as a noticeable lag or time delay) due to the electronic equipment used.
Because of the satellites' peculiar shape with three polished door-sized antennas, 120 degrees apart and at 45 degree angles with the main bus, the Iridium satellites have a highly visible satellite flare.

ICO Satellite Management - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
ICO Satellite Management, LLC, formerly ICO Global Communications, plans to offer S-band mobile satellite services (MSS) via a satellite in geostationary orbit and auxiliary ground-based relays.
Founded in January 1995, ICO Global Communications, planned to build an MSS constellation in medium earth orbit (in two 45°-inclined orthogonal planes), and had contracted Boeing Satellite Systems (then Hughes) for 12 spacecraft in July of that year — ten operational spacecraft and two in-orbit spares.
In September 2000, ICO contracted Hughes for three additional spacecraft, and Hughes agreed to modify the 11 remaining spacecraft from the original contract to support an ICO re-design of the system.

ICO maintains that “launch” is commonly used in the satellite industry in a way that does not depend on whether a payload reaches orbit.
ICO’s understanding of the deadline for launching two NGSO satellites is consistent with the ordinary vernacular meaning of “launch.” In common parlance, the word simply refers to the initial act of setting something in motion.
ICO indicated in the modification application that physical construction of the GSO satellite will begin in July 2005, that satellite construction will be completed in May 2007, that the satellite will be launched by July 1, 2007, and that the entire system will be operational by July 17, 2007.
