Center for the Study of Sexual Minorities in the Military | UCSB   (Site not responding. Last check: )
While the IDF has not undertaken any official studies of the effects of the inclusion of sexual minorities on military performance, we have been unable to find any evidence that suggests that the inclusion of open homosexuals in units, including combat units, has had any effect on operational effectiveness, combat readiness, unit cohesion or morale.
IDF claims that they did not discriminate against sexual minorities during this period are suspect, however, since examples can also be found where homosexuals were denied positions even though no security risks or adjustment problems were evident.
One IDF official in charge of psychological testing acknowledged that while the testers are not given specific rules concerning homosexual soldiers, they are told that they should ask in a roundabout way about a person's sexual orientation if the soldier acts 'effeminate or different'.

In addition, soldiers in IDF artillery units testified that the army used phosphorous shells during the war, widely forbidden by international law.
The use of such weaponry is controversial mainly due to its inaccuracy and ability to wreak great havoc against indeterminate targets over large areas of territory, with a margin of error of as much as 1,200 meters from the intended target to the area hit.
