  HON Allergy Glossary Interleukin1 (IL1)
IL1 is produced mainly by macrophages (most important source) as well as some other cell types.
Inducing adhesion molecule expression on vascular endothelium is part of the inflammation syndrome - IL1 induces ICAM 1 expression, while TNFalpha induces ELAM 1 expression on endothelium.
Corticosteroids, produced by the adrenals in response to signals from the brain (cortisone), inhibit the action of IL1 and are therefore used to reduce inflammation.

 IL1
IL1 is a set of six ciliated neurons with striated rootlets, each of which is one of the two component neurons of the inner labial sensilla.
IL1 dendrite does not protrude through the hole in the socket cell to the outside.
They run into their cell bodies, which are anterior to the ring; posteriorly directed processes from the cell bodies rejoin the process bundles, which pass down outside the ring, turn, and then run anteriorly near the inside of the ring (b) until the processes disperse in the anterior regions of the neuropile.

 Heart Health
The IL1 genetic test can be used to differentiate certain IL1 genotypes associated with varying inflammatory responses to identify individuals at risk for cardiovascular disease and heart attacks even before age 60.
The IL1 genetic test for heart health is based on scientific data from genetic association studies obtained through research collaborations with scientific experts in cardiovascular disease at leading academic institutions.
A positive result means that the DNA pattern in your IL1 genes is associated with a tendency to increased inflammation and to heart disease before you reach the age of 60.

MDA Research | Blocking Immune System IL1 Helps Mice With MG
Blocking Immune System IL1 Helps Mice With MG Erdem Tuzun and Premkumar Christadoss, both MDA-funded investigators at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, were part of a group that recently demonstrated the potential value of blocking the action of interleukin 1 (IL1) in treating myasthenia gravis (MG).
IL1 and several other substances associated with the immune system combine to destroy or block acetylcholine receptors, causing the fluctuating weakness of MG.
The authors say that compounds that block IL1 activity, perhaps in combination with etanercept, which blocks the activity of another immune-system compound, might be beneficial in the treatment of human MG.

 Epitomics IL-1 Beta rabbit antibody - 1743-1
The IL1 beta precursor form is not biologically active, while IL1 alpha is. Expressed mainly by stimulated macrophages and monocytes, IL1 beta precursor is cleaved by Caspase 1/ICE and other proteases (2-3).
IL1 beta is known to be a mediator in inflammatory response and to be involved in a variety of cellular activities, proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis.
Recent studies have shown IL1 beta to be a major cause of severe inflammation in the mouse model of Crohn’s disease, implicating IL1 beta as a potential marker for this disease (4).

Both IL1A and IL1B bind to the same IL1-specific receptor on the target cell, which is then internalised to initiate the relevant effects.
IL1RA binds to the IL1 receptor, blocking the effects of IL1A and IL1B whilst eliciting no response of its own.
From sequence comparisons it seems to have arisen by gene duplication before IL1 diverged into IL1A and IL1B PUBMED:1828896.

Quixtar - 102052 - New IL1 Heart Health Nutrigenomic Dietary Supplement
IL1 Heart Health Supplement is the first and only natural supplement formulated to specifically address the phytonutrient needs of individuals who have an over expression of the IL1 gene, to help them maintain a healthy heart and cardiovascular system.* Now available in bottles.
It helps balance IL1 gene expression and helps maintain normal C-reactive protein levels that are already within the normal range.* This unique combination of ingredients includes rosehips, grape stem and vine extract, flberries, and blueberries, all powerful antioxidants.
However, the product was developed for people with specific genotypes, and there is no evidence that the product will be effective for you if you do not have one of these genotypes.

There was evidence of linkage disequilibrium between IL1 a -889 and IL1 b -511 in African American cases and controls.
The authors concluded that two IL1 gene promoter regions were significantly associated with SLE in this study sample, supporting the hypothesis that altered or imbalanced IL1 production may affect the risk of developing SLE.
