The first part of the IMEI is the type of the phone, the Nokia would say it's a A835 to the (2g) network.
Changing IMEI numbers is is covered by the Computer Misuse Act and is a criminal offense with penalties of up to 5 years imprisonment - its what terrorists do to allow them to use mobiles to set off bombs by remote control etc and is not recommended as a way of avoiding the 3 network.

They wouldn't have access to your contact information with the IMEI and I don't know if it can be used for "cloning" or not.
I think the SIM and IMEI combination were introduced to prevent the "cloning" of handsets.
You will still want to be careful about who you give your IMEI out to but in a lot of cases the unlocking code is based on your IMEI or the ESN of a non-GSM handset.
