Uzi submachine gun - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Uzi submachine gun was used as a personal defense weapon by rear-echelon troops, officers, artillery troops and tankers, as well as a frontline weapon by elite light infantry assault forces.
Advanced and smaller Uzi variations were used by the Israeli special forces until recently, when in December 2003, the Israeli military announced that it was completely phasing the Uzi out of use by its forces but would continue to manufacture the weapon for both domestic use and export.
It was recently developed by the IMI and is in use by the Shabak and the Israeli counter-terror units such as the YAMAM.

There is also a catch on the cocking handle slide that prevents the bolt moving forward and firing a round if it is released accidentally before reaching the trigger sear.
The Uzi is reliable and surprisingly accurate; it has been used by the armed forces of over 20 nations and has also been licence-built by FN in Belgium.

The UZI utilizes the popular blowback system and is of simple yet durable and very solid construction from heavy pressings and heat-resistant plastic.
The magazine is inserted through the pistol grip, a novelty at the time; the reasoning behind this was that when reloading at night or when weary it was deemed easier to have the hands come together than to try to locate a specific position along the gun.
The UZI comes in several variations, including a mini-UZI and micro-UZI which have cyclic rates over 900 rpm due to their smaller frames and were designed for ultra concealability.

Neoairsoft: Tokyo Marui IMI Uzi Review
The Uzi was a gang-banger favorite of the 1980's.
That was probably due, in part, to it's overexposure in films such as Chuck Norris' "Delta Force." Despite it's bad reputation as a drive-by gun and being in some of the worst films ever made, the Uzi is, nonetheless, a reliable and sturdy weapon.
The Uzi was used heavily at checkpoints, and if a guard felt that a situation might escalate, they would flip their selector from safety to one of the fire modes in preparation for trouble.
