Third ship of the Krivak III class (Improved Project 1135.6) which cost was around US$ 280 million, the Tabar adds to the traditional Krivak Russian family of frigates a series of important modifications like the futurist steel superstructure with inclined side panels and a stealth shape that significantly reduces the radar signature.
Her "sister" vessels Talwar (F40) and Trishul (F43) are already commisioned and in operation since mid 2003.
The improved Krivak vessels are to fill the gap left with the decommissioning of the last Leader Class frigates and the future delivery of their new larger and heavier derivative Project 17.
