It is therefore important to gain a better understanding of the processes that are involved in generating IOR as well as those that are influenced by IOR once it is established.
The IOR effect is the performance decrement that occurs on longer SOAs for targets appearing at the cued location relative to targets appearing at the uncued location.
The popular interpretation of the IOR effect is that it reflects a bias against attention returning to the cued location (Gibson and Egeth, 1994; O’Donnell and Pratt, 1996; Pratt, Kingstone, and Khoe, in press; Reuter-Lorenz, Jha, and Rosenquist, 1996).

POV-Ray: Documentation: 1.4.3.4 Can I specify variable IOR for an object?
For uniform IOR it simulates physical IOR quite correctly since for objects with uniform density the light bends at the surface of the object and nowhere else.
The correct simulation for variable IOR, thus, would be to bend the ray inside the object depending on the density of the interior of the object at each point.
With IOR even very, very small areas may have very strong effect in the end result, since IOR can drastically change the direction of the ray thus making the result completely different (even very small changes can have great effect if the object behind the current refracting object is far away).

Because of the specificity of measurement points the IOR created distortions that in the produced boats that proved to be fatal to sail in heavy conditions.
The IOR penalized stability so the IOR produced boats with high vertical center of gravities, narrow waterline beams, and eventually a lot of flare so that crew weight could be loaded on the rail.
But the IOR rule had pushed the type form rig into a proportion that was harder to handle, required a larger sail inventory, placed greater stresses on the hull and was less seaworthy for a variety of reasons.

In closing the case Ior was eventually given a four-month suspended sentence for involuntary manslaughter.
After the funeral of his mother (June 23th, 1984) Ior (Boxström-Svedlin) claimed that his mother Rhea (Boxstrom-Svedlin) had left him a will that contained a very specific duty, which was to bring their "very family-saga" to the attention of professional historians as well as the public.

IOR was getting ready to move from Mk IV to Mk V. Mk V was quite well thought of by the design community and it was felt that it would move the sport forward.
As with most rules, IOR was originally inrended to rate racer/cruisers, but with the lack of a good rating system for grand prix boats the rule was perverted to suit them.
The shape of IOR boats changed too, gone were the narrow pinched sterns, subsequent IOR boats (look at the french half tonners, and the brittish half tonners from '82 onwards and you will see this) had wider flatter sterns, giving the boat much more dynamic stability downwind.

In a handicapped race, the IOR length is used to compute a ``time allowance,'' in seconds per nautical mile (s/M) which is multiplied by the distance of the race, and subtracted from the boat's actual time, to compute the boat's corrected time.
MORC seems to work better than IOR because the range of boats it attempts to handicap is not as large, and it is more quickly modified when problems arise.

 Interface Type Checking
If the answer is positive, the IOR passes the type checking test and the ORB can proceed to create an object reference in its own address space to represent the IOR.
The ORB is expecting an object reference of interface A. The remote end sends the RepoId of B which is an interface that inherits from A. The stubs of A are linked into the executable but the stubs of B are not.
When the ORB receives an IOR of interface type B when it expects the type to be A, it must find out if B inherits from A. When the ORB has no local knowledge of the type B, it must work out the type of B dynamically.
