iPhrothiya yeSiliva (Silver Protea) is a South African military decoration.
It was instituted with effect from 27 April 2003, and may be awarded to members of the South African National Defence Force (or any other armed forces serving with the SANDF) for outstanding leadership, or outstanding meritorious service and particular devotion to duty.
If the decoration is earned during a military operation, an arm-of-service emblem will be worn on the ribbon to indicate whether the recipient was serving in the army, air force, navy, or military health service at the time of earning the award.

iPhrothiya yeGolide (Golden Protea) is a South African military decoration.
It was instituted with effect from 27 April 2003, and may be awarded to members of the South African National Defence Force (or any other armed forces serving with the SANDF) for exceptional leadership, or exceptional meritorious service and utmost devotion to duty.
The PG forms part of a trio of military decorations for meritorious service, the others being iPhrothiya yeSiliva (Silver Protea) and iPhrothiya yeBhronzi (Bronze Protea).

Decorations for leadership, meritorious conduct or devotion to duty are iPhrothiya yeGolide (PG), iPhrothiya yeSiliva (PS) and iPhrothiya yeBhronzi (PB), which shall be awarded instead of the Southern Cross Decoration, the Southern Cross Medal and the Military Merit Medal.
Again, distinction bars to be worn on the ribbon mark further awards of the same decoration.

The SANDF is divided into the SA Army, SA Air Force, SA Navy, and SA Military Health Service, each comprising Regular Force (formerly Permanent Force) and Reserve Force (formerly Citizen Force and Commando) units and personnel.
The SANDF took over the SADF decorations and medals and used them until 2003, when an entirely new series of awards was established for the organisation: Nkwe ya Gauta, Nkwe ya Selefera, Nkwe ya Boronse, iPhrothiya yeGolide, iPhrothiya yeSiliva, iPhrothiya yeBhronzi, Tshumelo Ikatelaho, Medalje vir Troue Diens, Emblem for Reserve Force Service, and Okhankanyiweyo.
The medal was superseded by iPhrothiya yeSiliva in 2003.
