Stylistically diverse and tremendously resourceful, IQU is an electronic act on the rise, for their sound is absolutely original, without peer, and continues to perk up the ears of many worldwide.
IQU was born as icu (changed after threat of legal action after a ‘98 CMJ performance where they were approached by a hardcore band of a similar name).
The brainchild of Kento Oiwa, aka KO, IQU evolved as a creative partnership that he and Michiko Swiggs developed in a rain-soaked and artistically fertile ground of Olympia, Washington circa 1997.

 IQU
Hailing from Olympia, Washington, IQU (formerly known as ICU, though the pronunciation -- ee-koo -- remains the same) occupies a strange liminal world in which warm, quirky, live instrumentation meets engrossingly alien electronic music under the terms of a mutual agreement to embrace the openness of avant-jazz experimentation.
Since putting out that release, IQU has toured relentlessly, lost a member, been forced to change their name (from ICU) and recorded a couple of EPs -- 1999's Girls on Dates and 2000's Teenage Dream.
That latter release is actually a single ("Teenage Dream") accompanied by eight remixes by IQU's friends, including Looper the solo project of former Belle and Sebastian bassist Stuart Davis.

Areas of the album feel bright and brilliant, and may leave you with the feeling that you're observing something that is very much unique and original.

IQU's spiffy 1998 debut, Chotto Matte A Moment, based around long since departed stand-up bassist Aaron Hartman's thick, jazzy playing, was a relentlessly happy record that melded Japanese pop, jam-jazz sounds, jet-setting international cocktail lounge music, breakbeats, indierock, and new wave.
A few petals have fallen off IQU's own tree--Sun Q is occasionally trite, but its main problem is that it lacks the manic, what-the-fuck intensity of their live act.
