One Year after ISPS Code Implementation   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
The ISPS was adopted by the International Maritime Organization’s diplomatic conference in December 2002 as part of amendments to the 1974 Safety of Life At Sea (SOLAS) convention.
The ISPS code evolved in response to the changed security scenario after the devastation of the 9/11 attacks and it is in the interest of one’ s own security and for furtherance of trade to adopt it as soon as possible.
The major hurdle faced in the implementation of ISPS was the access control and perhaps the most significant changes since its implementation are the increased security awareness in all levels and the improved relations between the Port authorities, Coast Guard, Navy and the Police.
