  iSeries Network
We may live with an AS/400 or an iSeries every day, but when it comes to defining exactly what it is, many of us may stumble a bit.
Finding a good definition for the iSeries entails all of the same problems as finding a good definition for a mainframe.
The iSeries itself is the virtual machine that resides inside the fl box.

IBM System i - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The System i (formerly known as iSeries, AS/400, and Application System/400) is a type of computer produced by IBM.
It was then renamed to the eServer iSeries in 2000 as part of IBM's e-Server branding initiative.
The iSeries fully supports the Java language, including a 64-bit JVM that is implemented below the Operating System layer, closer to the hardware for superior performance.

Bytware, Inc. : Press Room : Press Releases : Mydoom hits the iSeries
Mydoom can enter the iSeries either through mail that passes through OS/400 or by copying itself to the iSeries from a client PC without the user’s knowledge.
iSeries security experts, including Carol Woodbury and Patrick Botz, recommend that administrators apply the same virus prevention procedures to their iSeries systems that they apply to their other platforms as a general security best practice.
With a focus of expanding its products to meet single and multiple networked iSeries requirements, Bytware devotes 100% of their development and marketing resources to provide new, innovative and cost effective means to managing system events and security.

 Confessions of an iSeries Priest
This is the blog of a high priest in the decidedly low-brow minority religion of iSeries worship.
The story also goes that some time in the 1990's they tried to replace their iSeries systems with 1,200 Windows servers in a year-long project that was eventually scrapped because A) they couldn't process the data as fast as the iSeries and B) they had problems keeping so many servers operational.
Of course to be fair the minions of that false religion would counter that the existence of a picture of an old iSeries system on every Windows XP machine doesn't prove that Microsoft uses that system to run it's organization and I would have to admit that such an assertion is technically correct.

Four Hundred Guru--iSeries Navigator: Application Administration
The iSeries Navigator's Application Administration tool allows OS/400 users who have sufficient authority in their user profile (*ALLOBJ, *IOSYSCFG), and have this piece of software installed on their PC, to control access to a wide variety of features, objects, and services that are available on both the iSeries and the client PCs.
For some iSeries Navigator features, this is understandable and even forgivable, but for IBM to bury Application Administration on a context menu is inexplicable and down right baffling.
When, for instance, the iSeries Navigator tab is clicked, which is the default view, you will see a list of all iSeries Navigator components, displayed in the same order they appear in the iSeries Navigator tree.
