BRP IUSS Research on Whales   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
Beginning in 1993, using acoustic data from IUSS, we have studied the seasonal and geographic patterns of vocal activity for blue, fin, humpback, and minke whales from large portions of the western North Atlantic (east of the Canadian maritime provinces and the US eastern seaboard) and eastern North Atlantic (west of Britain and Ireland).
The use of IUSS to monitor whale vocalizations in the western North Atlantic has been funded by the US Office of Naval Research and the Naval Research Laboratory.
IUSS whale monitoring work in the eastern North Atlantic has been funded by the Atlantic Frontier Environmental Network through the (UK) Joint Nature Conservation Committee.

The IUSS is a constructive force-on-force model for assessing the combat worth of systems and subsystems for both individual and small unit dismounted warriors in high-resolution combat operations.
IUSS will soon boast advanced cognitive models that will allow computer-generated forces, within combat vignettes developed by the analyst, to behave more like real soldiers.
The new IUSS will enable the forces to operate autonomously and choose their path and actions based on a dynamic battlefield, said Malabarba.

IUSS has introduced two awards which will be bestowed on outstanding scientists in the field of basic and applied soil science for the first time at the next Congress.

In a recent interview, the IUSS "Commodore" was vocal about his priorities, his hopes for IUSS, and what he will miss as he retires after 27 years in the Navy.
Another thing that's become fairly obvious is that when a person leaves an IUSS facility, he or she really knows how theater ASW is conducted, how it is coordinated, and how information is passed.
We were mired for decades in the idea that IUSS was a Cold War asset, that it was a deep water/blue water issue.

Hormonally impregnated intrauterine systems (IUSs) versus other forms of reversible contraceptives as effective methods ...   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
The review of trials compared IUDs to IUSs and found there was no difference in the rate of unplanned pregnancies.
An advantage of these hormonally impregnated intrauterine systems (IUS) is that they are relatively maintenance free, with users having to consciously discontinue using them to become pregnant rather than taking a proactive daily decision to avoid conception.
Twenty-one RCTs comparing hormonally impregnated IUSs to a reversible contraceptive method met the inclusion criteria and it was possible to include eight of these in the meta-analyses, four comparing LNG-20 IUSs with non-hormonal IUDs, one comparing the LNG-20 IUS with Norplant-2 and three comparing Progestasert with non-hormonal IUDs.
