Iago (voiced by Gilbert Gottfried), is a fictional character in the 1992 Disney animated film Aladdin, a talking parrot resembling a Scarlet macaw who served as a sidekick for Jafar.
Iago later switched sides in The Return of Jafar, but he is still largely conniving, greedy, and cowardly.
Frustrated, irritated, and fussy, Iago is not the type to want to openly show up his good side.

Jafar orders Iago to release him, but Iago, tired of being treated badly by Jafar, throws the lamp into a nearby well and returns to Agrabah, hoping to convince Aladdin that he had served Jafar only because of a spell cast on him (though this is untrue).
Iago, however, who was assigned to guard the others, breaks the Genie's confinment allowing him to save Aladdin and letting him help Aladdin and his friends escape from Jafar's clutches.
During the scene when Aladdin and Jasmine are in the courtyard, Aladdin is initially wearing his palace garments, but about halfway through (after the interval with Jafar and Abis Mal), he is seen wearing his peasant clothes, and remains in these clothes for the remainder of the film.

Aladdin was Disney’s first experiment with the idea (unless you count The Rescuers Down Under), so they tried to come up with ways to recreate the characters for mass production in different media.
There, Iago manages to save Aladdin from Abis Mal and his thieves who are trying to reclaim their loot.
It is Iago that first makes the choice to abandon Jafar and his evil ways in the beginning of the film.
