 Starlog - Ghastly Review
Bond creator Ian Fleming said very little about the hero’s early years, although he did note that Bond was raised by his Aunt Charmian after his parents’ deaths and was educated at Eton-—at least until he was thrown out.
This information, though, was enough for Ian Fleming Publications—-which controls the Bond literary rights and is run by the Fleming family—-to conceive of a prequel series of at least five books that would be aimed primarily at the same market that devours the Harry Potter novels.
One of the things that appealed to me was that-—because it had to take place during that time in order to fit in with Fleming’s books—-I could strip away all the corniness that has grown up around James Bond and just get back to writing straight adventure stories.
