CAPTAIN IAN URE, 6th (Terr.) Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, was born in Apri11885, and was at Loretto from 1898 till 1903.
Captain Ure obtained a commission in the 3/9th A. and S. Highlanders in 1917, and in the same year proceeded overseas to France, where he joined the 6th Battalion of his Regiment as a Company Commander.
With this Battalion he went to Italy, where he was killed in 1918 by the explosion of a bomb.

Ian Ure the Scottish international pivot was a colossus in The Dundee defence.Ian was born in Ayr, Scotland, on 7th December, 1939.
He would be McGuinness's only signing during the latter's short tenure in charge, joining the team in a stop-gap measure to strengthen the defence.
Ian played 11 times for Scotland, and in 1974 replaced Alex Ferguson (now Manchester United manager) as manager of East Stirling.

In the seventies,I believe in the days of Ian Ure there was supposed to be a player in your squad named Jim Ward or James Ward.
Can some of you elders help out here please.Apparently he was supposed to have played alongside Ian Ure or in the same team anyway.Any memories people?Would be obliged for any info on him.He is at present managing Ramsgate fc in the Ryman league.
Ure left to join Arsenal in 1963 - was it not there that he played alongside Ure?

Not sure about that, but the £80k Man Utd paid Arsenal was the largest amount they had received in a transfer deal.
Ian Ure was tranferred in 1964 for a scottish record fee of £62500.
