Ian Gardiner Waddell (born 1942) is a Canadian politician.
He was first elected to the Canadian House of Commons in the 1979 general election, representing the riding of Vancouver Kingsway, and later the riding of Port Moody—Coquitlam.
Waddell then moved to provincial politics, serving in several positions in the British Columbia NDP governments of the 1990s, including minister of small business and then minister of tourism under Glen Clark, and minister of the environment under Ujjal Dosanjh.

Waddell was deeply committed to overseas missions; the congregation supported three missionaries as well as providing a spiritual home for many students for the ministry.
Waddell believed that trade unions were an essential part of reform: he became the first president of the Tailoresses' Union of New Zealand from 11 July 1889.
Waddell was an important liberalising influence in the Presbyterian church, demonstrating that it was possible to be evangelical and missionary without being rigidly tied to the confessionalism of a strong group in the Synod.

Dear All, (Please forgive cross-postings) The campaign to suspend the grizzly hunt in BC (and improve the chances of meeting this species' conservation needs) was given a powerful boost recently when BC Tourism Minister Ian Waddell announced that he favours a suspension of the hunt, and would be taking the issue to the Cabinet.
Waddell's initiative could be crucial to it's success.
It may be most expedient to direct letters to BC Premier Dosanjh and to Ian Waddell.

On the plus side: Ian Waddell was a past chair of the Commons standing committee on culture (I think at the time it was communications and culture), and was minister of small business, tourism and culture in the Clark government.

Ian Waddell and Jim Fulton, the member for Skeena, were housed in the Confederation Building watching proceedings on television.

Waddell's 53% gives him a huge lead on both Johl and Emerson (19 and 17% respectively) and should be returning to Ottawa with a huge show of support.
Waddell is very effective as a campaigner, has a long history (selectively presented - he didn't mention favouring turning Burns Bog into an amusement park in his presentation to an environmental forum), and a solid core of support.
Ian Waddell may be credible, but he is not immune to losing.

On October 30, 1991, furious after missing a vote, Ian Waddell (Port Moody—Coquitlam) attempted to take hold of the Mace as it was carried out of the Chamber at the end of the sitting.
This act was found to be an attempt at filibuster, and was viewed as a challenge to the power of the Chair to adjourn the sitting.
Waddell guilty of contempt and calling him to the bar to receive a reprimand from the Chair.

Together with Tourism British Columbia CEO Rod Harris and Council of Tourism Associations president Kevin Walker, Waddell released two studies of the effects of the December 1999 merger.
