H from Steps - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ian Watkins (born May 8, 1976), better known as H from Steps, is a British pop singer, one of the five members of the now defunct pop group Steps.
In 2003, Watkins came eighth in the Channel 4 poll of the 100 Worst Britons, possibly because he was a member of a successful pop group with seemingly no talent or contribution to the groups success himself.
He is not to be confused with another British singer by the name of Ian Watkins who is the lead singer of the band lostprophets.

I talked with Watkins and guitarist Mike Lewis and both were very focused on the interview and not once said anything like, “We are the shit in England and headline over Linkin’ Park, so we should be playing the main stage here too.” However, if they did say that, I would agree with them.
Ian: When you play an amphitheater, people sit down and eat hot dogs and are like, “Who are these guys?” So far now, it’s been sunny, so it’s been nice.
Ian: Graphic design was always something to do in the meantime, while we were trying to make it in the band.

It formed with the break-up of Public Disturbance, which featured drummer Ian Watkins and guitarist Mike Lewis.
As the band refined their sound, the rapping was quickly abandoned, though a strong hip-hop influence remains evident in the band's sound.
In 2002, bored with playing a set filled with the same songs they'd been playing since the release of The Fake Sound of Progress, the band performed a new, untitled song live on several occasions, including an NME awards performance which was broadcast on MTV2.

Having started as an experiment, sick of school, and thirsty for way to express themselves musically, Watkins and co, all living basically next door to each other and attending the same schools, found they shared pretty much identical musical taste, and it was then the idea of a band was created.
However, it was Ian and Mike Lewis that first got it together, forming a post hardcore group by the name of Public Disturbance, at the age of 16.
The band had decided that Watkins' talents lied in his unique vocal style rather than his drumming ability, and it was then Mike Chiplin was introduced into the band.
