 | | Ibusuki, on the other hand, was hardly a spot for solitude -- It was jammed with tourists and fully booked, so we decided to drive west in order to find a place to spend the night. |
 | | The second day we indulged in one of the well-known experiences of the Ibusuki area, a "soak" in the dry, warm sands (heated naturally by underground springs) along the coast. |
 | | We finally made it to Chiran, a small town north of Ibusuki where we had planned to see some well-known, still-preserved samurai gardens; by this time, however, it was pouring rain, so we opted for lunch at an old home converted into a restaurant near the gardens. |
