Sara Bannerman: Tariff 22 Opening remarks
Today Copyright Board hearings began into Tariff 22, SOCAN's proposal (scroll down to 'Tariff 22') to charge royalties for the use of music on the Internet.
Tariff 22 has been before the Copyright Board before, in a case that went all the way to the Supreme Court of Canada.
They are now pressing ahead with Tariff 22 in what they are calling Phase II, the attempt to set the rates of the tariff for various types of uses, including "permanent and temporary downloads, on-demand streaming, audio webcasts, webcasts of radio or TV station signals and communications via game sites".

  Iceberg - MSN Encarta
Iceberg, mass of freshwater ice that is calved, or broken off, from a glacier or an ice shelf (a huge slab of permanent ice that floats on water near the edges of polar land masses) and that floats in the ocean or in a lake.
Icebergs were known to early mariners and explorers and to sealers and whalers who hunted their prey in Arctic and Antarctic waters.

Current iceberg research centers on satellite observations of icebergs, the use of icebergs to study past climate changes, and studies of using icebergs for drinking and irrigation water.
This iceberg followed the Weddell Sea coast of Antarctica for two years, got stuck in shallow waters for five years, and then bumped into the Larsen Ice Shelf, breaking off another iceberg 90 by 35 km (55 by 22 mi) in size.
This process would be slow, as it would entail maneuvering an iceberg into favorable ocean currents with the aid of powerful tugboats and landing it on shores where it could be quarried or melted.

Ice within an iceberg is a sky-blue color because it only absorbs a small portion of red light that enters it; thus, it is tinted rather than perfectly clear.
Icebergs between 1 m to 3 m are called "growlers" because sailors often hear a growling sound as these icebergs bob in the water.
Larger icebergs are simply called "bergs," and the largest of all are called "tabular bergs." These are plates of ice up to 1000 m thick; some are the size of a small state.

EO News: Changing Antarctica Viewed by NASA Satellite - April 11, 2002
NASA instruments flying on the Terra satellite have observed the calving of an iceberg and the breakup of an ice shelf in Antarctica, roughly 2,100 kilometers (1,300 miles) from one another.
In February, a section of the Larsen B ice shelf, located on the familiar finger-like Antarctic Peninsula, collapsed and broke away from the peninsula.
Comparison of the images shows the iceberg, located below and to the left of center, has drifted away from the ice shelf.

Ames noted that many B vitamins are sold over the counter in high dosages and are generally considered safe at such levels, although side effects have been reported after taking very high levels of some of them, such as pyridoxine and niacin.

The authors found 22 other diseases caused by defective binding to a cofactor derived from a B vitamin, including thiamine (B-1), riboflavin (B-2), niacin (B-3), cobalamin (B-12) and biotin (B-7).
