A cirque is an amphitheatre-like valley (or valley head) of glacial origin, formed by glacial erosion at the head of the glacier.
Cirques form in conditions which are favorable; which in the northern hemisphere includes the north-east slope being in shade and away from prevailing winds.
Cirques form in conditions which are favorable for glacier formation - where snow can accumulate into a thick and large mass.

 Iceberg Lake
The trail to Iceberg Lake is 9 miles roundtrip and passes through prime Grizzly Bear territory, so it is not a good idea to be caught hiking after dark.
Iceberg Lake is an aquamarine jewel, which is surrounded on three sides by towering mountains.
Ice-out often does not occur until mid-July, and icebergs for which the lake was named can be seen floating in the lake after the melt occurs.

Iceberg Lake was the deepest blue colored lake amongst all of the lakes they had seen.

Crossed part of the snowfield that slopes into Cecile Lake before coming to a shaded area that was still rock hard, detoured up a few hundred feet onto a safe rocky ridge and down the other side.
Happily, as you actually start going over the edge, it is revealed to be not so steep and mostly rocky with good footing...and the snowfield at the foot is almost flat.
Most of the other lakes have large irregular chunks of ice in them, but for some reason in Iceberg the ice breaks into neat polygonal shapes and drifts around the lake pushed by the wind.

 Glacier Part Two - Many Glacier
Iceberg Lake Trail is a nice dayhike from the trailhead adjacent to Swiftcurrent Motor Inn to Iceberg Cirque.
The trail is on the southern exposure of the glacial valley, and climbs in and out of treeline, mostly out, so if it is a sunny day you will get the full force of it during most of the hike.
By the time you reach Iceberg Cirque the ground may be completely covered with snow, and the trail only distinguishable by the orange markers (and possibly by the footprints of others).

 SummitPost - Heartbeat Peak -- Climbing, Hiking & Mountaineering
Heartbeat dominates the view north from Heart and Roger's Pass Lakes and forms the steep southern wall of the Iceberg Lakes cirque.
This is the approach for the Icebox Express and northeast ridge route on Heartbeat.
These hikes are easy, but avoid the steep eastern faces and cirques which give this area of the Front Range much of its charm.

It wasn't obvious to me from Davis (or from Rodgers last year, for that matter) that Electra could be easily climbed from the east, but since Secor rated it class 2 via its north ridge, I took it on faith that the apparent cliffs near the top must be easier than they looked from afar.
From the cirque, there seemed to be a number of ways to go--heading up over snow to the south ridge was one possibility, over loose talus to the north ridge another, either way class 2.
I was delighted to discover that the northeast side of the peak was climbable directly over some enjoyable third class slabs and ledges, a nice scramble on solid rock.
