There is no question that the existence of an atomic icebreaker implies the existence of atoms.
However, this shouldn't lead you to conclude that the designers and builders of the Lenin acted on a hunch, without really knowing, but hoping with all their hearts, that everything around them was made of atoms; because if it wasn't, their creation would never be able to sail out of the shipyard.
