Icehouse was organised by Iva Davies (born Ivor Arthur Davies, on 22 May 1955, in Wauchope, New South Wales, Australia), who was the main creative force.

The difference between the live band Flowers of 1980 and the performing ICEHOUSE band of today is enormous, and results from a steady evolution involving all sorts of changes: changes within the individual performers, changes in line-up, changes in types and range of venues, performance media and audiences.
ICEHOUSE nervously approached their first appearance at the Venue, in London on 22nd July, but were enthusiastically received by a packed house including a hefty sprinkling of expatriate Aussies bent on barracking for their fellow countrymen.
ICEHOUSE had completed a few more dates in America on the way home and resumed performing in Australia on 13th November at the same venue from which they had left their homeland five months earlier, the Capitol Theatre in Sydney.

In 1980 Flowers also released their debut album, Icehouse, which was also well received by their fans at home.
The success meant it was time to go international, but like so many other bands - Yazoo, the Beat, and all the British acts that tack a "U.K." to their names for their American releases - Flowers ran into legal problems with their name.
The resulting move was to adopt the name of their first album as their new monicre, and so Icehouse was born.

Icehouse was formed around 1977 by Iva Davies and Keith Welsh, with the moniker Flowers.
Icehouse was the name of that band’s 1980 debut album, which spawned hometown hits with "Can’t Help Myself" and "We Can Get Together." Chrysalis Records offered to release the album, but had to ask the band for a new name seeing as how English and American acts were using the same name.
So the band got the name from their album and song title, "Icehouse." But by the time 1982 came about, the band had an absence of material for a sophomore album, and founder Iva Davies had taken himself back to his home studio for inspiration.
