Icemaiden (Sigrid Nansen) is a fictional character, a superheroine in the DC Comics universe.
The goal was to duplicate the abilities of what at the time were a legendary tribe of Ice-people; the experiment was a success, though as a side-effect Sigrid's skin was permanently turned blue.
Taking the name Icemaiden, she joined the Global Guardians as her country's representative to that international super-team.
Icemaidens are cold, unfeeling creatures, savage and blunt.
If she hits, the target takes damage equal to 1d6 times her icemaiden class level in both unholy and cold damage, and is paralyzed for a number of rounds equal to her icemaiden class levels.
The icemaiden is considered to be a native outsider to Toril.
Ice's personality was an amusing mix of girl-next-door wholesomeness and innocent-abroad naivety, which served as an excellent contrast to the impulsive, even libidinous traits of her friend and teammate Fire.
Ice served with the Justice League International for years (remaining with the American branch even after a European branch was opened), occasionally dated Green Lantern Guy Gardner and even pursued a brief romance with Superman after he joined the team.
Icemaiden is able to generate intense cold and project ice from her hands.
When the Norwegian government discovered the Ice-People and brought back Tora Olafdotter, Sigrid quit the Global Guardians as she felt she could not compare to a "real" Icemaiden.
When Tora, who had later assumed the name Ice, was killed, Sigrid began battling crime again in an attempt to honor Tora's name, eventually joining the Justice League for a brief time.

The unconscious Icemaiden materializes beside her, carried by the rats.
He knocks Icemaiden aside with a backhand and grabs Fauna by the throat.
Icemaiden has been trying to support the near unconscious Fauna but pauses to fume at her alien-like companion.
Slightly unsettled by his ominous words, Icemaiden rushed to the backdoor, put the key, which had been given to her by Cathy, in the keyhole, but didn't unlock the door.
Icemaiden raised her hands to create and manipulate ice around the explosive before it hit the kitchen floor.
Icemaiden opened her mouth to say something, but just shrugged instead.
Sigrid was anxious to prove herself and became a test subject to try to duplicate the powers of the legendary "ice-people." It was successful and Sigrid became the first Icemaiden.
She agreed to serve as Icemaiden in the Guardians in return for Norwegian government's help in protecting her people.
That "League" was infiltrated by the Mist, who lured Icemaiden away and killed three of their members.

The Icemaiden had felt amused at first, confident that when her opponent once again made her presence known, it would be Sigrid who landed the first blow.
Suddenly the amazon was right behind her, wielding a club the size of an NBA player and spouting some gibberish about how she'd heard from some Slavic be-yatch that Sigrid weren't no one.
And the Icemaiden draws upon her power, wherever it comes from, and the ice flows over her.
Not long afterward, financial tycoon Maxwell Lord convinced the United Nations to sponsor the team, and it became known as Justice League International.
Fate, Dr. Light, and Captain Marvel were replaced with former Global Guardians members Green Flame and Icemaiden (later Fire and Ice) and one of the Russian Rocket Reds.
For the most part the international embassies of the JLI dealt with local heroes and transportation, while the main team remained based in New York.
