Many of you may be familiar with Awaji Island as merely the land on which the expressway to Kobe is built, but there is actually much more to it than that.
Prior to the Meiji period, Awaji was part of Tokushima Prefecture (though the kanji for Awa is different, Awaji is said to mean 'the road to Awa') and though Awaji Island is now part of Hyogo Prefecture, it still has close ties and much in common with Tokushima.
This month we are introducing a few places in Awaji that we think it is worth making a detour off the expressway for.
