  ICHINOMIYA CITY
Ichinomiya City is an important transportation hub, with four expressway interchanges and the junction of three major highways: the Toumei and Meishin Expressways that are main transportation arteries east and west, and Tokai Hokuriku Expressway, a route which connects the Pacific coast with the Sea of Japan north and south.
And so the town surrounding this shrine became known as "Ichinomiya." Ichinomiya City was municipalized September 1, 1921 and has expanded twice in the past by merging with neighboring communities, first in 1940 and again in 1955.
Ichinomiya City was designated a "tokurei-shi" (an "exceptional city") in April, 2001.
