	History
		The nearest halt to Ickenham was at Ruislip - Ickenham was not considered important enough to merit a station.
		The marathon race was started in the grounds of Windsor Castle, and the runners passed through Uxbridge, Ickenham, Ruislip and Eastcote on their way to the White City Stadium.
		Ickenham Hall was sold to the Metropolitan Railway in 1902, and was bought by Charles de Winton Kitcat after the line was opened in 1904.

		It is on Ickenham Road, which leaves Ruislip High Street at the crossroads in the centre, towards Ickenham.
		Proceed along Ickenham Road to the dreaded roundabout and then take the second exit, where the first (Kingsend which comes up from the traffic lights by the station in Ruislip High Street) is almost a u-turn to your left.

		Forty Years On Ickenham remains a picturesque village even in the 21st century, but there have been changes over the years which many residents may have forgotten about.
		The parade of shops on the corner of Glebe Avenue has yet to be built, and the end wall of what is now Ickenham Motors but was then a chemist’s shop bears the proud motto ‘Surgical Truss and Belt’ in enormous fl letters.
		The Fox and Geese had a decent pub sign – and at the time I took the picture at right, the pub was actually called the ‘Th ox and eese’ as the letters had fallen off.
