Ida Haendel (born December 15, 1928) is a violinist.
Haendel was born in Poland and initially studied at the conservatoire in Warsaw before studying with Carl Flesch and George Enescu in Paris.
During World War II she played in factories and for British and American troops.

For whatever "the queen of violin" means, or who the queen should really be, this is still a very good DVD that shows you the virtuosity as well as musicianship of a great artist.
Anyway, rightly so or not and for whatever it is worth, before the WWII people used to refer to Ida as the queen of the violin.
The best vioinist DVD I have seen all these years, not just because Ida is a great violinist, but also because of the remarkable repertoire played and recorded with excellence, sound and sight.

Yes I have both Menuhin's 39 recording and 72 video recording, but looking specifically for Haendel's version
I don't think Haendel's playing of Bloch's 'Avodah' has been re-mastered from the 78.
