  Musical Identities
Taken together, this cover and this title seem to imply several interesting things: that the notion of musical identity is related primarily to playing or performing; that musical identity is relevant primarily to the young; that it´s somehow, or primarily, associated with ‘pop´ phenomena; and that there are many musical identities.
Musical Identities seems to compartmentalize musical identity: this identity and that identity.
The psychological forces of their identity formation were so strong, and they had such loyalty to their musician identity.

VOICES 1(2)-Forrest: Addressing Issues of Ethnicity and Identity...
Music, song and dance heralded the different stages and phases of the religious and agricultural calendars, the seasons, and related rituals and ceremonies; described the experiences, and especially the hardships, of work and war; and fulfilled an important role in the celebrations, and daily life and routine of the family (Warner, 1990; Yurchenco, 1989).
Music therapy is increasingly being found to be an effective intervention in addressing the principles of palliative care, and there is a growing body of literature exploring the use of music therapy to address the diverse and evolving needs of patients who have a terminal illness.
Music that is culturally significant or meaningful to the patient may trigger memories of other times, people and places, potentially allowing patients to explore and resolve past conflicts, and to reconfirm their identity as a member of their family, social circle, and wider cultural and ethnic heritage in preparation for death.

Music At Work CMS 2003 Outline
Music as an essential part of the identity of the independent labels is retrospectively constructed as it emerged from the analysis of the empirical data.
In the case of the independent labels it could be said that identity is constituted in the music that people refer to to make sense of the label, their work and their lifes, as the label, their work and their lifes are intertwined in such a way that they become inseperable.
Music is their lifes making working with and producing music part of their lifes (in music).

Rock music has been found to be particularly important for those adolescents who in some way reject the culture of their class background, providing them with a marker of social distance from the parent culture and its expectations.
Studies have shown that, while children's music is popular up to the age of six, by the age of four up to 60% are also already interested in pop; and by the age of seven, 40% have pictures of music artists on the walls of their room.

It is very difficult to distinguish between music that is widely popular because a large audience appreciates it, and music that is popular because audiences have very few choices due to the flooding of radio and TV airwaves by a small number of successful artists.
Music audience communities are conventionally considered under the rubric of "mass," "subculture" or "genre." Genres and subcultures are negotiated by participants through talk, actions, clothing, and other behaviours.
As Scott argues, music becomes influential in production spheres through "a circle of auditors that is gradually widened" (outward, that is, from band to producer to record label to promoter to local audience to radio to distributor to TV channel to mass audience, with numerous intermediaries, negotiating trust and meaning, betwixt) [49].

Today in Bavaria, what is understood to be "traditional folk music" no longer has much in common with the popular music-making practices that prevailed among large segments of the population until the beginning of the 20th century.
Folk music cultivation was long excluded as a field of study for music and song research because, as "simply folklorism," it did not seem worthy of special attention.

While musical subcultures are generally best left alone for youth to determine themselves (seeing that this is likely an important part of the pleasure of pop music), administrative authority has limited application, except to introduce new things into the community.

Hooklines and melodies are mostly present and correct – particularly in standout "Mistaken Identity", which sees Delta echoing both Alanis Morissette and the ghostly spectre of Kate Bush (a frightening, if enjoyable, combination) and the jolly "Sanctuary." "The Analyst" is lyrically dense and "Almost Here", her duet with Brian McFadden is revealing.
Each track on the album, bar one, was written by Delta herself during a year in which she was suffering from cancer, probably at her piano in the loneliness of her room, or scribbled in a notepad during nights in which she couldn't sleep.
From the acrimonious wonder of the song 'Mistaken Identity,' to the heartfelt and touching 'Out of the Blue,' to the catchy, sparkling'A Little Too Late,' each song on this album is like a sparkling gem which makes you want to dance and cry.

This paper reports four studies which investigated the function of musical preference as an identifying 'badge' by which adolescents express their own self-concepts and make judgements of others.
It demonstrated a positive relationship between adolescents' musical preference, self-concept, self-esteem, and normative expectations of the 'typical' fans of musical styles.
In conjunction, these studies provide empirical support for the notion that musical preference acts as a 'badge of identity' during adolescence which predicts several other aspects of lifestyle and attitude.

Lysenko's view of music as a vehicle for the promotion of a populist agenda permeated his writings and activities, for he perceived traditional music first and foremost as a socio-cultural phenomenon.
Lysenko viewed Ukrainian traditional music as a device for sustaining ethnic identity and preserving the true history of the country by oral means, bypassing official interference and interpretation.
Through his influence as folklorist, composer, and activist, he buttressed the notion that music must be perceived as a compelling form of attention-getting; a means of commanding public spaces, and a potent tool for the narration and re-narration of history.

In mathematics, Euler's four-square identity says that the product of two numbers, each of which being a sum of four squares, is itself a sum of four squares.
If the as and bs are real numbers, a more elegant proof is available: the identity expresses the fact that the absolute value of the product of two quaternions is equal to the product of their absolute values.
The identity was used by Lagrange to prove his four square theorem[?].

Sadly enough, this ongoing grasp for a definitive identity appears to be manifesting itself in Canada ’s music, or at least the acts that American and international labels choose to hype outside the confines of our borders.
