Linear transformation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Furthermore, in the case that V=W, this vector space is an associative algebra under composition of maps, since the composition of two linear maps is again a linear map, and composition of maps is always associative.
In the finite dimensional case and if bases have been chosen, then the composition of linear maps corresponds to the multiplication of matrices, the addition of linear maps corresponds to the addition of matrices, and the multiplication of linear maps with scalars corresponds to the multiplication of matrices with scalars.
The identity element of this algebra is the identity map id : V → V.

 Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance Journal :: Feature
Identity mapping projects are designed to identify many different kinds of resources including valid and assigned resources, orphaned resources, dormant (unused) resources, administrative resources or system resources.
Identity management solutions leverage this capability to enable individuals, managers, security, or support staff to manage the resources appropriate to their profile for use in compliance, provisioning or password management activities.
The identity mapping process, no matter which approach is taken, generates a list of unmapped accounts where no profile was matched - conflicts where two or more profiles were matched or other aspects of the rules may have moved them into the unmapped category.

Then an element e of S is called a left identity if e * a = a for all a in S, and a right identity if a * e = a for all a in S.
If e is both a left identity and a right identity, then it is called a two-sided identity, or simply an identity.
But if there is both a right identity and a left identity, then they are equal and there is just a single two-sided identity.

Identity function - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An identity function f is a function which does not have any effect: it always returns the same value that was used as its argument.
The identity function on the positive integers is a completely multiplicative function (essentially multiplication by 1), considered in number theory.
In a metric space the identity is trivially an isometry.

identity +------------------------------------------------------------ An identity for a law of composition on a set S is an element e such that, for all ain S, ea = a and ae = a.
Thus the identity permutation is an even permutation (since it is equal to the composition of any transposition with itself), and any transposition is an odd permutation (since it is equal to one transposition).
The sign map is well-defined because it is a standard result that if sigma is any permutation (of any set), and if sigma is equal to the composition of k transpositions and is also equal to the composition of m transpositions, then (-1)^k = (-1)^m.

Universal fibrations Thanks to the homotopy equivalence [7, Theorem 1.3] between the center and the centralizer of the identity map of a p-compact group, the classification of fibrations with p-compact group classifying spaces as fibres is surprisingly manageable.
The map Bk is easily seen to be a homotopy equiva- lence and the fibre map (BP (Y); BP (Y 0))BP(g) is contractible [7, Theorem 1.* *3] [10, Theorem 3.11] since Y and Y 0and with them their adjoint forms P (Y) and P (Y 0) are completely reducible.

Identity element - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In mathematics, an identity element (or neutral element) is a special type of element of a set with respect to a binary operation on that set.
Then an element e of S is called a left identity if e * a = a for all a in S, and a right identity if a * e = a for all a in S.
To see this, note that if l is a left identity and r is a right identity then l = l * r = r.

 Homeomorphism
Such a function is called a homeomorphism; intuitively, it maps points in the first object that are "close together" to points in the second object that are close together, and points in the first object that are not close together to points in the second object that are not close together.
In the case of homotopy, the continuous deformation from one map to the other is of the essence, and it is also less restrictive, since none of the maps involved need to be one-to-one or onto.
It is (except when cutting and regluing are required) an isotopy between the identity map on X and the homeomorphism from X to Y.

I wonder if continuous bijections preserve completeness...) Take the identity map from the open interval (0,1) to itself, using the discrete metric in the domain and the usual metric in the codomain.
The middle map can be viewed as the identity map on a set but with a topology in the domain which is possibly finer than the topology on the codomain.
So "every" question about continuous maps boils down to a study of quotient maps, inclusions, and (the one most forgotten) the identity maps to a weakened topology.
