Devotion to Idols and Idol Worship in Hinduism
There is no doubt that idol worship is a superior form of divine worship, a very simple way of uninhibited declaration of man's faith in God, if we put aside the empty ritualism and the pompous display that are generally found associated with it.
Idol worship helps us to concentrate the energies that emanate from a prayer into one strong flow of current in one particular direction.
Actually when he is worshipping the idols, praying in front of them, he is invoking the divinity within himself to wake up and liberate him.

Idolatry - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
When a Hindu "worships" to an idol he does not pray to the stone. The idol is just a piece of stone until God is invoked in it.Even then it serves as a means to focus and meditate on God and is not believed to be the God in physical sense.
The question of whether Confucianism, and Chinese folk religion, consists of worshipping a God or veneration of a saint was important to the Catholic Church during the Chinese Rites controversy of the early 18th century.
Rather, they maintain that physical idols are simply the representational form of a divine deity — the act of "worship" is not for the object, but for the divinity that the object is believed to represent.

 Idolatry
The term "idol" need not imply a physical object, such as an icon or statue; because the purpose of an act of worship is to bring one into connection with divinity or spirituality; that which generates confusion in this seeking may be called an idol.
In the context of historical research, and with a historical perspective toward the meager aspects of the ancient human condition, the subjective and thin cultural differences that constitute the pejorative of "idolatry" are easily seen as relative.
Taking these verses together, idolatry in the Hebrew Bible is defined as the worship of idols (or images); the worship of polytheistic gods by use of idols (or images) and even the use of idols in the worship of God, the one deity worshipped by the Israelites.

idol, an object, frequently an image, which is worshiped as a deity.
Idols are usually found in human or animal form and may be treated as though alive; they are fed, bathed, anointed, crowned, and sometimes even provided with a consort.
Christians and Jews extend the term to include any deity other than their own; theologically, however, idol worship is generally applied to the adoration of what is seen and tangible as opposed to the worship of an unseen spiritual being.

Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy distinguish between worship (Latin adoratio, Greek latreia [λατρεια]) which is due to God alone, and veneration (Latin veneratio, Greek dulia [δουλεια]), which may be lawfully offered to the saints.
Judaism and Islam hold that for all practical purposes veneration should be considered the same as prayer; Judaism, Islam, and Protestantism forbid veneration of saints or angels, classifying these actions as akin to idolatry.

Worship this image of Her and repeat the Navarna Mantra and you will obtain Her Grace." This time, Puran Chand had no misgivings whatsoever; he had full faith.

But maybe it's time to ask what American politics can learn from American Idol -- and to give credit to the show's creators for their marked success in convincing young people that a vote for something, even if it is only a pop star, can matter at all.
When Ruben Studdard, who ultimately won the competition, was nearly voted off the show a few weeks ago, his fans got the message; the number of votes he received -- as well as the total number of votes cast -- increased in subsequent episodes.
American Idol suggests one way to rectify these problems: The show makes voting easy by enabling viewers to cast ballots by phone from the comfort of their homes.
