		In the midst of a colorful festival that inaugurated the Americas Social Forum (25-30 July) in Quito, Oxfam, IFAT and the Inter-University Committee launched a broad letter-writing initiative to ask governments of the region to refrain from negotiating trade agreements that harm the peoples of the Americas.
		The thousands of participants in the forum will be able to sign the postcard "Make a big noise because another America is possible," which will be delivered to governments and legislators that are negotiating free trade agreements, such as the FTAA, with the United States.
		According to Catalina Sosa of IFAT, "Governments and legislators are not listening to the hundreds of civil society organizations and small-scale producers who are saying no to these trade agreements."

	IFAT bolsters its position as leading international trade fair pumpselect
		IFAT 2002 was characterized by a trend toward internationalization.
		IFAT 2002 also set a new record in the number of visitors from other countries: More than 30,000 visitors came to Munich from countries other than Germany.
		According to the results of a survey conducted by the market-research institute Infratest Burke, IFAT 2002 was given an exceptional rating of "good to excellent" by exhibitors (92 percent) and visitors (96 percent) alike.

		As with the Fairtrade Foundation and FLO, IFAT's mission is to improve the livelihoods and well being of disadvantaged producers not only by creating the right conditions for them to market goods but also by pleading their case with governments and financial institutions and speaking out for greater justice in world trade.

	IFAT 2002: Exhibitor numbers set new record pumpselect
		IFAT 2002 is poised to set another new record in exhibitor numbers: over 2,040 exhibitors from 40 countries will be attending this year´s event (for comparison, at the 1999 fair in Munich, the figure was 2,021 exhibitors from 33 countries).
