The Igalas had their own food, farming system, food processing methods, cloth weaving, medicine and treatment of ailments, marriage systems, etc. These gave them their own identity.

The data I collected between 1971 and 1974 give clear evidence of historical interaction among Igala, Igbo, and northern Edo over time, although it is not sufficient to demonstrate the nature of that interaction.
Until further research is carried out among the Igala, in Ibaji (the Igbo-Igala borderland), and among the northern Edo, we will be unable to do more than suggest that the northern Edo of Ekperi have drawn heavily upon the cultures of neighboring Igbo and Igala to augment a heritage from the Benin kingdom.

The Mallam as the marabout was popularly called prayed and the Igala's as it was widely recounted emerged victorious.
But soon after the victory dance, there arose a measles out break in Ankpa, a neigbouring town and the king there sent words to the Igala king in Idah requesting that the Mallam who had assisted the Igala's in the war with the Junkuns be sent to assist his people.
