  Iggy Pop: The Stooges
Following three albums, the Stooges disbanded, but the group's legacy grew over the next two decades, as legions of underground bands used their sludgy grind as a foundation for a variety of indie-rock styles, and as Iggy Pop became a pop cultural icon.
Adopting the name Iggy Stooge, he rounded up brothers Ron and Scott Asheton (guitar and drums, respectively) and bassist Dave Alexander, and the group debuted at a Halloween concert at the University of Michigan student union in 1967.
Meanwhile, the Stooges lived on in countless semi-legal releases and repackagings of live shows, demos and outtakes, all of which were consumed avidly by a still-devoted cult.

The Stooges - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nevertheless, The Stooges are often regarded as hugely influential both on the then-nascent heavy metal, and on punk rock (see protopunk).
Iggy is also sometimes credited with the invention or popularization of stage diving.
Iggy Pop himself dedicated a lot of time to cleaning up the recordings and adjusting the mix, going for a more aggressive sound; the re-issues are generally regarded as having superior production, but the bonus tracks are not seen as essential additions to the catalog.

The Stooges concert review, DTE Energy Music Theatre, Clarkston, MI Aug. 25, 2003
The Stooges' Monday night performance at the DTE Energy Music Theatre was actually rescheduled from August 14th, when the nation's largest flout forced the postponement of that show.
As Iggy jumped, yelped and agitated the swarming, frenzied crowd, Ron Asheton, with goatee and U.S. army shirt (his Nazi outfit from the early '70s must've been at the dry cleaners) stood stoically as he effortlessly delivered some of the nastiest, foundation-loosening rhythm guitar known to man or beast.
Iggy's played with a lot of bands and musicians since the demise of The Stooges, but none have ever seemed to matter so much, or sound so dangerous, as the band he brought with him last Monday.

 The Stooges- Perfect Sound Forever
As Lester Bangs once said, Iggy was simply a fucked-up kid who took too many drugs and wanted to have the most fucked-up band in history so as to externalise his own nihilism.
So the Stooges, from 1968 til their final dissolution in 1974, trekked across the country time and time again despite the fact that the general 'rock' audience didn't give a shit, with few contemporaries to call their own.
The question still remains, however, as to why the Stooges have made such an impact on me at this relatively late stage of my 'development', yet didn't move me an inch when I was an angry teenager being brainwashed by Minutemen and Bad Brains records.

This is a restrained Iggy however; he actually sits on a chair, but not for long during the performance.
The Stooges songs are performed in their basic raw form without any bass, just Iggy and the Asheton brothers cutting loose.

Iggy and the Stooges: Raw Power ---Ink Blot Magazine
The Stooges, a thorn among the roses of 60's psychedelia, dwelled on the dingier, dirtier side of rock & roll.
While Iggy Pop's deranged onstage antics and The Stooges' loud, primitive, bluesy rock won them a devoted cult audience, they were too vulgar to break into the mainstream.
They didn't like the glittery sheen that David Bowie put over their rough Stooges, so Iggy took it and stripped it all down, and now Raw Power is only as sparkly as the shards of glass he used to cut himself with onstage.
