Igloolik, sometimes spelled Iglulik, is a community in Nunavut, northern Canada.
Because it is on a small island in Foxe Basin that is very close to the Melville Peninsula (and to a lesser degree, Baffin Island), it is often mistaken to be on the peninsula.
An ancient legend from the Igloolik area was adapted into the award-winning Canadian film Atanarjuat in 2001.

The trails (most of them traditional, well-traveled routes used in Igloolik for generations) were mainly mapped while traveling, using the track function of a portable GPS unit.
During my investigations of social and technological changes around wayfinding techniques among Inuit hunters of Igloolik (in the territory of Nunavut, Canada), the importance of place naming in the perception, narratives, and use of their territory became apparent.
Throughout the paper, "Igloolik" is used in reference to the island of Igloolik and the current settlement, and "Iglulik" is used for the old campsite located several kilometres southeast of the present settlement.

In Igloolik, caribou was the most common material for making winter clothing.
Caribou skin is very warm; the hair growth is twice as dense as on seal skin, and the hollow guard hairs enclose air that acts as insulation against the cold.

She has collaborated with Igloolik media artists in various capacities since 1997, including being co-producer, technical director, and audio reporter for Live from the Tundra, a website that streamed audio and video dispatches from a remote Inuit outpost camp in Nunavut with a high-speed-data satellite telephone.
In various trips to Igloolik, Nunavut, especially those which took me out on the land to work on projects with Inuit video artists, I have always been awestruck by the surreal, supernatural sounds of the place.
We travel by snowmobile to a small island north-west of Igloolik, a well known bird sanctuary where thousands of arctic terns (imiqqutailak), snow geese (kanguk), arctic loons (qaqsuaq), and king eiders (mitik) come to nest on the soft mossy tundra and mate on the island's numerous ponds.

An award-winning television series produced by the creative team from The Fast Runner, Nunavut brought to life the story of the Inuit people living in the Igloolik region of the Canadian Arctic in the 1940s.
The opening episode is set in Igloolik in the spring of 1945 and focuses on a family traveling in the immense and beautiful arctic spring.
Elders discuss how shamanistic practice was influenced by Catholic and Anglican missionaries who came to the north and incorporated Christian figures into the Inuit pantheon, like the evil spirit “Satanasi.” Interviewees range from young people to elders and politicians, all of whom share a belief that “things happen” and that shamanism remains a living religion.
