Hryniewiecki is the surname of two noble Polish families.
The name means "Descendant of Hrynie" with the suffix "wiecki", which could mean two things: either 1) "to be awoken, watchful" or 2) from the Latin translation, and assuming it derived from a pet form of Grzegorz, or gregis, meaning "herd" or "flock" (from the Christian image of the Good Shepherd).
Pawel Hryniewiecki was a descendant of this family and vice-regent of Brans and took part in the election of King Stanislaw August Poniatowski.

Hryniewiecki was a Pole from the lands of former Grand Duchy of Lithuania, then ruled by Imperial Russia in the effect of the Partitions of Poland.
In 1880, Hryniewiecki, Andrei Zhelyabov, Sophia Perovskaya and others were in charge of revolutionary propaganda among students and workers.

Ignacy Hryniewiecki (Игнатий Гриневицкий in Russian, or Ignatiy Grinevitskiy) (August of 1855, or fall of 1856 - 1881), Poland-Russian revolutionary, murderer of Tsar Alexander II of Russia.
On March 1, 1881 Hryniewiecki threw a bomb at the Tsar Alexander II, who was passing through Nevsky Prospekt near the Winter Palace.

The assasination was carried out by the radical revolutionary group Narodnaya Volya; also known as the “Poeopl’s Will” when Alexander was driving in one of the central streets of St. Petersburg, near the Winter Palace where he was wounded by the explosion of hand-made grenades; he died a few hours after the attack.
The Csar was killed by Ignacy Hryniewiecki who died during the attack.
The church of Savior on Blood was built where Alexander II died.
