		Ignacy Lukasiewicz was born on March 8, 1822, in Zaduszniki as the youngest of the seven children of Jozef and Apolonia, nee Swietlik, in a family of impoverished land gentry.
		Lukasiewicz and his wife, Honorata nee Stacherska, settled in their estate in Chorkowka and their home became a kind of the headquarters for local oil industry but also the center for the local intellectual and social life.
		Lukasiewicz died in Chorkowka, in 1882, and was buried at the Zrecin graveyard, near the Church, he had founded himself together with his friend, Karol Klobassa.

		His experiments gained notoriety, and the European oil industry was born on a dark night on July 31, 1853 when Lukasiewicz was called to a local hospital to provide light from one of his lamps for an emergency surgery.
		Lukasiewicz enlisted the aid of a business partner and traveled to the Vienna, capitol city of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, to register his distillation process with the government on December 31, 1853.
		To provide oil for his kerosene business, Lukasiewicz initially collected a thick, sticky crude from shallow, hand-dug wells in the Gorlice region, an area in the Carpathians about 50 miles west of the Polish town of Bóbrka.
