The Igor - Television Tropes & Idioms
Igor is the sidekick and manservant to a Mad Scientist.
Igor can't fight, usually, and if encountered by the hero in a combat situation, will high-tail it out along with his master, unless the master tries to sacrifice him to enhance his own chances.
Literary example: Terry Pratchett's Discworld features an entire clan of these types, all named Igor (except the women, who are named Igorina), all with their own unique pattern of scars and deformities, and all of them incredibly skilled surgeons.

Igor is a recurring set of characters in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series of novels.
The Igors are based partially upon Mary Shelley's Frankenstein's Monster, and partially upon the hunchbacked assistants in Universal and Hammer's film versions.
The male members of the Igor clan traditionally lisp, are considered very good catches for any young lady, and their daughters tend to be very attractive ("Eyes on the same level, that sort of thing?" as Samuel Vimes once commented).

 Igor
Igor or Egor is the traditional or cliché hunch-backed lab assistant to the mad scientist, familiar from many horror movies and horror movie parodies.
The archetypal Igor, however, is probably the character of that name played by Marty Feldman in Young Frankenstein, Mel Brooks's parody of Universal's Frankenstein movies.
In Terry Pratchett's humourous fantasy novels, the Uberwald region of the Discworld (that is, the region of the Discworld noted for resembling a collection of horror movie clichés) is home to an extended family of hunch-backed lab assistants with speech disabilities, every single one of whom is named Igor.

By the time of The Science of Discworld II: The Globe Stibbons had hooked it up to the University's clacks tower, and it worked out all the codes, meaning the University can now use the clacks for free.
Oddly, The Science of Discworld puts the name Hex in small capital letters, hex, that are the same type as when Death speaks.

The plot is a version of an earlier Discworld novel, Lords and Ladies, with the predatory elves of that novel being replaced here by suave and deadly vampires, and the tiny kingdom of Lancre being defended by its witches.
I love all of the Granny Weatherwax/Nanny Ogg Discworld novels, and even though "Carpe Jugulum" tackles some unusually serious themes (its vampires are truly evil, unlike the loveable, teetotalling Otto in "The Truth"), it is still vintage Pratchett and vintage Granny.
This time out Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and the other witches of their coven must protect their homeland of Lancre from an incursion by a clan of vampires who have been training themselves to be immune to such things as garlic and religious icons (it's all psychosomatic, you see).

The story, another in the Discworld saga, highlights the recruiting efforts of a small country chronically at war with its neighbors.
This is, despite the Discworld fantasyland and its ludicrous conflicts, a serious book for serious people in serious times - and "no one has the right to be stupid." Questions remain at the end of the book and one wonders where Pratchett will go from here.
Monstrous Regiment is recommended Discworld beginners or newcomers; fans will find some familiar territory and will broaden their horizons of the "mirror of worlds".
