Ijebu has a long history, myths relate that Ijebu-Ode was founded by two men, Ajebu and Olode, who jointly gave thier names to the settlement; Olode is commemorated by a small stone monument in the street named after him.
Literates and Christians use their surnames the personal name of the father or paternal grandfather and contend that these names should pass n the male line; moslem use as a surname the personal name of their father.
In a proclamation made in 1912 by the Awujale and his chiefs, it was stated that until 1892 (the date of the British conquest) the Awujale was the sole and sovereign ruler of Ijebu, all land in Ijebu country belongs to the Ijebu people under the supreme ownership of the Awujale.

Gary, I honestly do not remember a fl throat on my BIV Ijebu Ode (memory being my second shortest thing), but they were personally identified, I believe, by both Wolfgang Eberl and Peter Tirbak as BIV Ijebu Ode (and not BIT).
