Mori, in certain reptilian eyes, into the elite of Apple-glow openers (y'know, Powerbook performers).
Well, it's a secret here that Ikue is one of the best improvisers on the scene, some twenty years after rerattling the drums in DNA and remains so charming still.
Ikue has peeled through these skins for decades now, the infinities smoothed and scaled out accordingly, ever expanding them and then inhaling the snakes back in, ruler of the varying key levels of rhythmic tumbling and sound locks, she is. Gates are shutting in and reopening at her click and command.

 Ikue Mori: Mysterious Soundscapes
Mori began her career as an untutored drummer in the seminal no wave group DNA, than transformed herself into an improviser who juggles an array of interconnected drum-machines and samplers, and again into a laptop computer player who no longer bases her musical language on rhythmic conceptions.
But Mori also succeeded generating new textures from her computer that sound surprisingly organic and personal, far from the electronic drones or abstract blizzards of otherworldly pulsating soundscapes so common with musicians who are adding electronics to their musical vocabulary.
Mori's inquisitive approach to sound manages to deconstruct and reconstruct sounds that may (or may not) originate from such sources such as a disjointed electric cello, a broken mini-Casio keyboard, or a short-circuit electronic from-kit, but their computerized mutations transform them into totally fresh sounds.

 * Dusted Reviews - Zeena Parkins & Ikue Mori *
Mori, whose American musical career began as the drummer for DNA, took up the drum machine and founded a new world for the instrument, taking it far beyond backing rhythms and robotic fills.
Parkins began as an acoustic harpist, but, in the late ’80s, she and Tom Cora began to explore a design that revolutionized the harp in terms of both technique and palate, and, as her electric harp has been further modified and refined, Parkins continues to rediscover the harp in both its acoustic and electric formats.
Mori’s samples run the gamut from echoes of the natural world to science-fiction alchemy, and she’s usually adept when it comes to synthesis with Parkins’ music; she sometimes uses more percussive strains to propel the music, other times layering the background of the mix with blankets of tone, cushioning her collaborator’s creations.

You might think that between a DJ and a drum machine operator, something resembling a groove would emerge, but Mori never does that and Olive remains equally abstract on this occasion--the two create a complex kaleidoscope of sounds with plenty of percussive chatter but no regular pulse.
DJ Olive on the turntables mixes the inklings of crackly melodies and slight orchestral washes, while Ikue Mori deals with the scrapes, the swishes, and the organic bleating of beats.

Kim Gordon / Ikue Mori / DJ Olive: self-titled - PopMatters Music Review
While Sonic Youth's sound is based greatly on the interplay between two guitarists, the fifth release in their SYR series is nearly guitar-free.
The resulting release shows the three blending their own styles into a sound that is thoroughly unique, one which takes all three in a new direction while retaining the experimental nature and high quality of the work they've each done previously.
Knowing Ikue Mori's history as a drummer who in most recent years has been utilizing her own batch of personalized drum machines, I'd assume this is her contribution.
