  Sodoma
Sodoma, belonging to a younger generation, trained in a freer school, and more naturally ready to absorb the tendencies of the time, was the very man needed to give new life to the art-world of the place.
Vasari was the authority for his extravagances, and it is probable that, disliking Sodoma personally as he did, he exaggerated the small eccentricities and unconventionalities of a wayward artistic disposition, keen in its love of sport and with the same passionate fondness for dumb animals as his great master, Leonardo.
In an inventory of Sodoma's possessions taken at his death (February 15th, 1549), there is mention of a number of portraits, including those of a Saracini lady, another lady of the Toscani family, and of Pandolfo Petrucci, the would-be tyrant of Siena.

Il Sodoma - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Il Sodoma (1477 - February 14, 1549?) was the name given to the Italian Mannerist painter Giovanni Antonio Bazzi (also wrongly spelled Razzi).
Il Sodoma painted in a manner that superimposed the High Renaissance style of early 16th-century Rome onto the traditions of the provincial Sienese school.
According to Vasari, the name by which Bazzi was known was "Il Mattaccio" (the Madcap, the Maniac), this epithet having been bestowed upon him by the monks of Monte Oliveto.

IL SODOMA (1477-1549), the name given to the Italian painter Giovanni Antonio Bazzi (who until recent years was erroneously named Razzi).
He is said to have borne also the name of "Sodona" as a family name, and likewise the name Tizzioni; Sodona is signed upon some of his pictures.
While "Bazzi" was corrupted into "Razzi," "Sodona" may have been corrupted into "Sodoma"; Vasari, however, accounted for the name differently, as a nickname from his personal character.

Actually, the name "Il Sodoma" was voluntarily adopted by March 1513, when it appeared in Siena's racing records.
What is clear is that Sodoma was not a modern, out gay man; he was a showman (who named his son Apelles), and may have been erotically interested in both sexes.
Sodoma's art is often charged with sentimental affects of same-sex intimacy.

 Biography
Il Sodoma (originally Giovanni Antonio Bazzi), Italian painter, whose work bridges the High Renaissance and Mannerist styles.
He was a prolific painter of frescos and easel pictures, and he drew on a variety of sources that were not always fully digested; consequently his work often has incongruous juxtapositions and a general air of uncoordination, but it also possesses charm and a flair for decoration.
In his time Sodoma was considered the leading artist in Siena, but later critics have come to rank Beccafumi above him.

When he was low in funds, II Sodoma gave in to the pleas of his admiring patrons and worked a bit.

Agostino "il Magnifico" Chigi (1465-1520), the richest man in Europe, once lived in this sumptuous villa built for him by the architect Baldassare Peruzzi between 1508 and 1511.
Some of Rome's grandest feasts and parties, the likes of which were unknown since the days of imperial Rome, were staged here, often for popes, diplomats, artists, philosophers, and even high-priced courtesans.
Chigi was Raphael's most ardent patron and friend, and he called upon this great artist to help decorate part of his villa, along with such towering figures as Francesco Penni, Giulo Romano, Sebastian del Piombo, and "Il Sodoma" (so called because of his sexual practices).
