Isabela is a province of the Philippines located in the Cagayan Valley region in Luzon.
Its capital is Ilagan and borders, clockwise from the south, Aurora, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Kalinga, and Cagayan.
Isabela today is the premier province of the north, one of the more progressive in the country and Santiago, the commercial center of Region 02 has been declared an independent city last July 7, 1994.

The history of Christianity in the province of Isabela is intimately linked with that of its sister provinces in the Cagayan Valley region, namely Cagayan and Nueva Vizcaya.
But Isabela is more significantly remembered in Philippine history as the place where General Emilio Aguinaldo, the president of the First Philippine Republic, was captured by American forces in 1901, in the town of Palanan.
The Diocese of Ilagan was created on January 31, 1970 and canonically erected on May 12, 1970, comprising the civil province of Isabela.

Iligan, PHILIPPINES — Ilagan, Isabela, 14 September 2005 – Greenpeace together with the Diocese of Ilagan called on Isabela Governor Grace Padaca to abandon Bt Corn, a genetically modified organism (GMO), and to declare a ban on GMOs in the province, following the example of Bohol and Oriental Mindoro.
Isabela is home to the under-financed Regional Crop Protection Center which has successfully introduced the use of Trichogramma wasps, a natural enemy of the corn borer, to control infestations.
Farmers in the province of Isabela (2) who have shifted to Trichogramma say they have stopped using chemicals altogether because the method effectively reduced the occurrence of corn borer by 80-85%.
