MV Ilala, one of the country’s oldest vessels was on the wee hours of Tuesday morning involved in an accident after hitting rocks when it was sailing from Nkhata Bay to Chizumulu and Likoma islands, Malawi Lake Service (MLS) has confirmed the incident.
However, MLS refuted the claims saying Ilala was certified seaworthy by the Marine Department, which is a government institution.
In October last year, Ilala was also involved in another accident after it hit a rock while sailing on Lake Malawi.
