Yilan County (Traditional Chinese: 宜蘭縣; Hanyu Pinyin: Yílán Xiàn; Tongyong Pinyin: Yílán Siàn; Wade-Giles: Yi-lan Hsien; POJ: Gî-lân-kōan) is a county in Northeastern Taiwan.
Yilan County controls one township-level cities (縣轄市), three urban townships (鎮), and eight rural townships (鄉).
Not only does the event enrich Ilan’s cultural soil and create business opportunities, it offers a highly successful example which other cities and counties across Taiwan can draw on as they also attempt to bring more culture and art into the life of their communities.

In Ilan, KMT candidate Lu Kuo-hua won by only 8,000 votes over DPP candidate Chen Ding-nan, gaining control of the traditionally pro-DPP stronghold for the first time in 24 years.
The PFP and the New Party retained control in Lienchang County and Kinmen County respectively, both outlying islands to the coast of mainland Fujian that have been strongly pro-unification and anti-independence.

In 1992 under the prevalent pressure of Taiwan's emerging environmentalism, Taiwan Cement Company signed a contract with Ilan county government; they were committed to pay six million NT each year as the "environmental protection compensation” to the polluted area.
Ilan government also took this idea and applied it in the designs of the New Year Festival in 1996.
At the "Happy Ilan New Year” festival, fourteen communities participated, each displaying their "cultural specialty (tese).” This was the first time Baimi presented itself as "Muji Village.” They sold hundreds of wooden sandals during the festival period.

 Nature Preserves and Wildlife Refuges
As the number of green turtles in the Taiwan area is falling due to environmental degradation and poaching, the 23 hectare refuge was set aside in January 1995 to serve as a breeding ground and refuge for nesting green turtles.
The Tatu Rivermouth Wildlife Refuge, which straddles the border between Taichung County and Changhua County, is a diverse collection of coastal waters, rivers, sandbanks, tidal flats, farmland, and fish farms.
Established in September 1996, the Lanyang Rivermouth Waterbird Refuge is located at the confluence of Lanyang, Ilan, and Tungshan Rivers in Ilan County.
