In fact, these four pieces bridge Abrahamsen's fallow period, for they are expansions of piano studies that he wrote in the early 1980s.

First, the technical details - BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra conducted by Ilan Volkov playing Sibelius - Symphony No.3, then Hans Abrahamsen - Four Pieces for Orchestra (UK premiere no less) then Brahms Piano Concerto No.2 (with Nelson Freire driving the piano).
The Hans Abrahamsen was well played by the orchestra (and not much more can be said about it).
The Four Pieces for Orchestra by the Danish composer Hans Abrahamsen were like the last mournful echo of German romantic music, filtered through a modern sensibility.
