Iliamna is a census-designated place (CDP) in Lake and Peninsula Borough, Alaska, U.S. As of the 2000 census, the permanent population of the town was 102.
Iliamna was originally the name of an Athabaskan village at the point where the Iliamna River flows into Iliamna Lake, about 65 km (40 miles) from present-day Iliamna.
The Lake and Peninsula Borough, the governing body for the region, passed a strong resolution in support of the development of the mine, but the majority of the surrounding villages adamantly oppose the development.

Now, around the campfire, my old high school buddy, Tim, had told me about the yeti that had climbed aboard his boat one night when he was nosed up to the beach and alone on the lake near this very spot.
There could be a band of yeti here, off shoots I figured of the Abominable Snow Men of Siberia that had migrated here with the mastodons when this part of Alaska was connected to Russia by a narrow strip of land.
