Images of Ilkeston and the Erewash Valley with special features from other areas.
The book with an initial run of 500 copies and priced at just £5 per copy went on sale at the Erewash Museum on Saturday 10th November 2007 and the compilers Stephen Flinders (in the middle above) and Alan Edwards (on the right) were kept busy signing copies for an eager public.
The third person in the picture above is another local historian, Danny Corns who produced a leaflet for the Society about the Hallam Fields Industrial Trail - a walk I followed and photographed for Ilkeston Cam.

  Ilkeston
Ilkeston was first recorded as an Anglo-Saxon settlement called Tilchestune and became part of the Danelaw in the 9th century.
Also, as a result of the new demands brought by the Industrial Revolution, the coal industry was rapidly expanding and its development was helped by the construction of the Erewash Canal in 1773 and, in 1793, by the Nutbrook Canal which gave access to the main waterway of the River Trent.
A sanatorium was constructed in 1888 to halt the spread of smallpox, the first electric tram system in Derbyshire commenced operation in 1903 and supplies of electricity were made available to the public in 1905.

The goal seemd to awaken the Ilkeston team and from the re-start of play they began playing some lovely passing football and were finally rewarded with a goal from young striker Sam Taylor in the 35 minute.
In the 52nd minute Annette Wale sent in a lovely cross from the right hand side and although the Birmingham goal keeper got her hands to the goal bound shot, Rachael Booker was their to pounce on the rebounded ball and blast in another goal from close range.
Although the Ilkeston team played well, they will again be very disappointed in only getting another draw and will hope to get that yet illusive victory when they play away to Garswood next Sunday.
