Such is much more appropriate to this general article on the "illegal drug trade", for it should not delineate very specific cases for certain drugs and certain regions that are inaccurate for other drugs and, most importantly, other regions, and so incomplete.
Trade in illegal drugs is driven by the economics of greed and poverty, and in many cases by addiction.
Each drug calls for different hierarchies and professions, different skills, etc. It's a true trade -- several very different trades, in fact, which is why this subject requires separate headers (and preferably separate articles) for each drug -- and this much should not be understated.

The UN report, issued in Stockholm, said the global drug trade generated an estimated $321.6 billion in 2003, the latest year for which figures were available.
It was the first time the U.N. drugs agency had made an estimate of the worth of the world's illegal drug market, which it said was necessary to understand the breadth of its influence and ability to destabilize countries.
The main problem drugs continue to be opiates -- mainly heroin -- and cocaine, which accounted for the bulk of almost 22 million people the report termed problem drug users.
