Illinois Community College System - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In 1959 separate junior college districts were authorized by allowing any compact and contiguous territory to be organized as a junior college district with an elected board of education with authority to maintain and operate the college and levy taxes for its operation.
Each community college district has a locally elected board of trustees, with the exception of City Colleges of Chicago whose local board is appointed by the mayor of Chicago.
The Illinois Board of Higher Education is the administrative agency with responsibility for all higher education sectors in Illinois.
