List of Illinois State Routes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Illinois State Route system (typically abbreviated as ILL) was formed in 1918, and each road was numbered in chronological order.
Thus, it is not uncommon to find groups of routes with similar numbers around each other (routes 23, 26, and 29 are found in north-central Illinois, while routes 56, 58, 59, 60, 62, 64, 68 and 72 can all be found in northern Chicagoland).
Route 1 was formed as the primary highway, stretching well over 350 miles from Chicago to the Wabash River near Kentucky as part of the Dixie Highway.

McHenry County is the fastest growing county in Illinois, and population growth projections in and adjoining the corridor rate among the highest in the state of Illinois.
In addition, the Route 47 corridor serves as the direct link between an existing commuter rail station in Woodstock at the north end, and a proposed commuter rail station in Huntley at the south end.

The original Illinois Route marker was a rectangle with a state outline containing the numbers.
The original Illinois state highways were simply numbered in order of origination, and consisted of little more than numbers placed on poles of existing trails.
Eventually Illinois, along with most of the rest of the country, adopted the current US highway marker, a white shield surrounding a fl number enclosed on a square blank.

Ledger Sentinel - Award winning newspaper published in Oswego, Illinois
The surge in traffic volume on Route 30 coincides with a home-building boom that began on either side of the highway west of Orchard Road in the village in 2001.
Wallers said the last time his firm checked with IDOT on the Route 30 project, the agency’s engineering plans had not yet advanced to the level of determining whether walls or some other type of noise-deadening screening would be included in the widening project.
Route 30 was originally constructed in the late 1950s to serve as a traffic bypass for the City of Aurora.

Along Route 66 between Joliet and Wilmington, a unique undertaking is working to recreate the natural ecosystem on one of the most environmentally damaged areas imaginable: 19,000 acres of the the old Joliet Army Ammunition Plant is being converted into the Midewin National Tallgrass Prairie Preserve (limited public access; 815/423-6370).
Route 66 through this once mighty industrial enclave is a feast for fans of post-industrial scenery: Loads of old warehouses and commercial buildings line the route, while stalwart bridges cross the historic Illinois and Michigan Canal, which, beginning in the 1840s, connected Chicago with the Mississippi River.
Following the first or last leg of Route 66 across Chicago and its hinterlands is really not worth the effort for anyone except the most die-hard end-to-ender—even Jack Rittenhouse, in his original 1946 Guide Book to Highway 66, didn’t bother to describe the route until it reached Plainfield, 35 miles southwest of the Loop.

 Wisconsin State Highways (176-894)
The former routing of SR-57 remained on WisDOT's official highway maps through the 1995/96 issue, while the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel has stated in stories, "In 1992, the state transferred control of the road to the municipalities, dropping its highway designation." Similarly, SR-181 did not appear on the official map until the 1997/98 edition.
In 1946, the State Highway Department decided to move the routing of SR-78 from the west side of the Wisconsin River to the eastern shore from Sauk City to the Merrimac Ferry, where SR-78 joined SR-113 to cross the ferry into Merrimac and the former route of SR-78 on that side of the river.
One of Wisconsin's newest state trunk highway designations, SR-241 was commissioned in 1999 along a former routing of US-41 in the southern half of Milwaukee Co. In the last half of 1998, US-41 was rerouted to remain with I-94 from the Milwaukee/Racine Co line through downtown to the Stadium Frwy interchange.

 Illinois Highway Trivia
SBI Route numbers that were superseded by other routes, US or state routes were often reused.
A few State routes had Alternate, City, or Business Routes in addition to the regular State route, often these were the old route thru towns when the new alignment was built outside town.
Sometimes numbers are assigned because they sound good, or the route is related to another route, or because the number had once been assigned to a portion of the route.

Trapp was a candidate for the Democratic nomination for state supreme court justice in the third judicial district.
Trapp came out swinging--he filed a motion to dismiss the state's petition based on the argument that the devices were taken by "unlawful search and seizure." Trapp's motion to dismiss was also based on the argument that the state's petition failed to show that the machines were used for gambling.
He said the state also does not require search warrants except in the case of forcible entry to seize concealed property, nor due process of law 'for the abatement of contraband' such as pinball machines.
