		Ilminster is a quiet country town in the countryside of south west Somerset, England, with a population of 4,781
		Ilminster takes its name from the river Ile and its large church, which is known as The Minster.
		The town contains the buildings of a sixteenth century grammar school, as well as the Ilminster Meeting House, which acts as the town's art gallery and concert hall.

		At Ilminster station the basic layout was similar to the arrangements at Hatch, in that there was only a single platform and a goods-only loop, so the same restrictions applied concerning the crossing of trains.
		However the platform at Ilminster was on the Up side, with the loop on the Down side and several sidings connected to it.
		The signal-box stood in the yard about mid-way along the loop and, unlike Hatch, remained in use until the line was closed north of Chard in 1964.
